Gily Bella Sofia Ilan & Nadav Rauchwerger | Studio Davka
Preparing for "Two Elements", our first joint solo exhibition, was an opportunity to explore our individual artistic practices alongside the creative dialogue that has developed between us over the years.
Working together and separately, we created new ceramic works through an ongoing process of experimentation with materials, forms, textures, and glazes. Some pieces began on the pottery wheel, while others were built by hand using coil-building and sculptural techniques.
Recycled clay played an important role in the process. By reusing and combining materials from our studio, we explored the possibilities of familiar clay bodies and allowed unexpected qualities to become part of the work.
Glaze development was another central part of the preparation. We revisited recipes and experiments from our years of working with ceramics, testing different surfaces, colors, and reactions. Many of the works were fired in a gas kiln, where the atmosphere of the firing introduced another layer of variation and unpredictability.
Throughout the process, our different approaches influenced one another. Ideas moved between us, sometimes developing into collaborative works and sometimes taking shape independently.
Two Elements brings together these parallel and shared processes, reflecting our ongoing relationship with clay and with each other's artistic practice.
